Water, water, everywhere… and not a drop for the garden…

If gardeners know one thing…. it’s about water! Every gardener knows the importance of water for productive and healthy vegetables and plants.

It’s still our first year for the Guelph Street Community Garden and we knew going into it that our garden in the Uniroyal Goodrich park did not have an onsite water source. We pursued every avenue know to community garden gurus in the Waterloo Region, but without success. So, rather than pay extra cash, that we don’t have, for water that falls freely from the sky,… we thought we should focus our efforts on harvesting it at the garden itself!

Our priority for 2014 will be to fund & build a rainwater harvesting structure for the Guelph Street Community Garden! Here’s a rendering of a prototype collection structure. Let us know your thoughts!
